What we're doing and whyretired-for-hire-logo

20 million people in the UK population are over 50, 12 million are over 65, and the number of retired people is increasing every day. And those who are made redundant over the age of 50 can find it very hard to find another job. And yet retired or semi-retired people have a huge reservoir of skills and experience, may want to carry on working, maybe part time or on a self-employed basis.

Apart from the waste of all those accumulated skills, it’s a shock to the system to stop working suddenly when you retire. Many retired people want to work in order to stay sane, while others need some extra money, and still others want to start a new career doing something they have always fancied doing. For example I know an ex-fireman who now designs and makes jewelry. Some retired people want to do jobs for free for the local community.

Customers of all these retired professionals can benefit too – getting a service from someone local, possibly at a cheaper price, while helping them to earn a retirement living.

Retired people can be any age – they might have opted out of the rat race at 40, be semi-retired still with a part time job, or be launching a little self employed business while still in full time employment - in anticipation of retirement. They are all welcome on our site.

We have decided to run this as a free service to link people up - those with a skill with those with a need - so we don’t take any commission. It’s up to the participants to agree whatever rate and payment method they like.

So if you’re retired or semi-retired or want to retire, with a skill you’d like to use, or if you know anyone who is, or if you’re looking for someone experienced to help you with a job, please register at our site and help us make a difference.
